REFEREE INFORMATION

Sereno Soccer Club Referee Information

Whether you are already a referee or have an interest in becoming one, this is where you’ll find the scoop. If you are a new or experienced Grade 8 Referee or higher level and would like to work games for the Sereno Soccer Club, contact our referee Assignor, Chris McConkey, at refqueen@cox.net. You can also visit his web site, www.evsrefs.com to gain additional information, review game schedules and to provide your current information for assignment.

Education and Certification

The Arizona State Referee Association conducts referee certification programs throughout the state of Arizona. A current list of these classes can be found on the web site www.azref.com under the “Classes and Clinics” links.

You must maintain a current USSF certification in order to be an official for the Sereno Soccer Club. We would like to invite all interested players (age 12 and above), parents and coaches to complete referee certification. As a certified referee you will gain a much better understanding and appreciation for the game. To top that off it is also a very good source of income that can last a lifetime and will help out the club by making home games possible.

Grade 9 Referee Certification

This entry level certification is a great way for the younger person to determine if a referee career is right for them. As a Grade 9 Recreational Referee you can Assistant Referee the Maricopa League games to the U-14 age level and after an appropriate amount of field experience they can be the Center Referee for Recreational Soccer matches.

Grade 8 Referee Certification

The Grade 8 Referee is certified to work as either the Center Referee or Assistant Referee for all youth soccer games. At Sereno Soccer Club we strive to have referees assigned to age appropriate games based upon the experience level of the referee.

Referee Certification/Recertification Classes

Below you will find a list of referee classes that are currently listed on the ASRA web site for the 2011/12 season. There will be more classes added to this list in the next few weeks. To sign up for the class that fits into your schedule, go to the “Classes and Clinics” page of the referee web site www.azref.com, click on the link for the appropriate class, and follow the instructions.

TEAM MANAGER INFORMATION

Scheduling

The following explains the process for assigning referees for the Sereno home games scheduled with the Maricopa Open League, recreational games, and scrimmages.

NOTE: State League games are assigned by the state assignor and are not part of this process.

Maricopa Open League:

  • As soon as game schedules are posted on Got Soccer they will be copied into the referee schedule on the web site – www.evsrefs.com
  • Team managers should review their schedules and identify needed corrections as quickly as possible.
  • Referee schedules are posted on the East Valley Soccer Referees web site www.evsrefs.com. Please review that schedule to make sure that your home games are all listed properly at the correct time and field.
  • Team managers should verify their home game with their opponent by Tuesday prior to their match. (As soon as possible for the first week)
  • Team managers are to confirm their verified home game by Tuesday prior to the match by e-mail to the referee assignor, J W Hanson at jw@evsrefs.com.
  • Games that are cancelled or postponed after 10:00 PM on Wednesday are subject to payment of the referee fee for the cancelled game
  • Team managers should copy the referee assignor, jw@evsrefs.com, on any e-mail sent to an opponent when rescheduling a home match so that he is aware of the situation.
  • Referee fees are to be paid to the referee prior to the start of the match when you give him/her the Game Card. Please be sure to have the fee divided into the correct amounts for each position as the referees will not be able to make change.
  • Referee contact information is protected so if there is a problem or the referee has not arrived by 15 minutes prior to your match; please call JW at (480) 612-3595. If he is on a match he will call back at the first opportunity.
  •

Scrimmages:

  • Please contact Jay Hanson at least 4 days prior to the scrimmage at jw@evsrefs.com or (480) 612-3595. I’ll do the best I can with short notice

Additional Information

  • Referees are required to be at the match 30 minutes prior to the start unless they are coming from a different field. If they are not there by 15 minutes prior to the match, contact JW Hanson at (480) 612-3595 so that he can find your crew.
  • Every effort is made to assign a full crew to every match. Some weekends that may not be possible, someone may have fallen ill, gotten lost or for some other reason missed an assignment. The Center Referee may arrange for untrained spectators to help on the line or do without depending on the game.
  • In an event that NO referee shows up for the match, the Maricopa League Rules give you the following options:
    • 1.Select a spectator from either side line that is agreeable to both teams.
    • 2.The coaches split the referee duties one for the first half the other for the second half.
    • 3.If the teams can not agree to the above then the game will be rescheduled for a later date.
  • If a coach or team has a problem with a referee crew DO NOT ADDRESS THE REFEREES. Please contact me directly after the match to discuss the issue(s). I will be more than happy to either explain what happened and/or schedule make arrangements to provide additional mentoring to the referee.
  • Please remember that most of the referees are 12 – 17 years of age and have 0 to 3 years of experience and are still learning their positions. Keep this in mind when at a match and be mindful that it could be your child out there.
  • When rescheduling games, please try to stay away from large tournament weekends as they are hard on the referee pool
